Supplemental Training and Experience Questionnaire (T&Q)
The Security Officer Supplemental Training and Experience Questionnaire is a set of questions that may assess certain competencies such as the ability to handle stressful situations, ability to organize and manage assignments, interpersonal skills, writing ability, and other knowledge skills and abilities. There are total of 31 questions, (multiple-choice and 3 short essays).The candidates' responses to the Security Officer Supplemental Training and Experience Questionnaire will be submitted to an expert review panel for evaluation. The expert review panel will assign a numerical score to each candidate based on an assessment of each candidate's qualifications as described on the candidate's training and Experience Questionnaire.

Candidates that meet the minimum requirements of the Application and the Supplemental Training and Experience Questionnaire will be invited to take the Multiple Choice Test.Multiple-Choice Test
The qualifying multiple-choice test will be administered and proctored on-line, and the following competencies may be evaluated: written communication, reading comprehension, interpersonal skills, and other knowledge, skills, and abilities.Candidates invited to participate in the qualifying on-line multiple-choice test will be able to take the test from a remote location using a computer with a webcam and a reliable internet connection. Candidates will receive an e-mail from the City of Los Angeles outlining the dates and specific steps on how to take the qualifying multiple-choice test on-line. It is anticipated that the remote proctored qualifying multiple-choice test will be administered during the dates listed below:

If you successfully pass the Department Interview, you will move forward to the Background Investigation.Background Investigation
In the Background Investigation phase you will meet your Background Investigator and a thorough investigation will be conducted. The Background Investigation includes checks of employment, police, financial, education, and military records and interviews with family members, neighbors, supervisors, co-workers, and friends. The investigation may take up to 4 months to complete. The time frame varies depending on the candidate’s background. You will be evaluated on your past behavior and the extent to which your behavior demonstrates positive traits that support your candidacy for Security Officer. You will be notified if additional information is required. The findings of the background investigation are valid for 12 months.NOTE: Make sure you fill out, notarize and turn in the Release and Waiver. The Field Investigation cannot begin if your Release and Waiver has not been submitted.
Command Interview
The Command Review (interview) is a conducted by Los Angeles Airport Police Command Staff to assess character, decision-making, interpersonal skills, knowledge about the department and motivation to join the Los Angeles Airport Police Department. The interview is approximately 30 minutes. The interview is on a pass/fail basis. Only those candidates who pass this part of the process will receive a Conditional Job Offer.Upon review and approval of your Background Investigation, personnel from the Airport Police Hiring Unit will contact you to schedule you for a Command Review.

The Medical Evaluation is thorough and it is essential that you be in excellent health with no conditions, which would restrict your ability to safely perform the essential functions of a Security Officer. Candidates must undergo a comprehensive medical examination given by a City physician.Physical Requirements
Strength to perform average lifting up to 15 pounds and occasionally over 25 pounds; good speaking and hearing ability; and good eyesight including normal color and night vision.Persons with disabilities may be able to perform the essential duties of this class with reasonable accommodation. Reasonable accommodation will be evaluated on an individual basis and depend, in part, on the specific requirements for the job, the limitations related to the disability, and the ability of the hiring department to accommodate the limitation.
Hearing
Candidates must be able to understand speech in noisy areas, understand whispered speech, and localize sounds. Specialized testing methods are used to determine hearing capability. Although hearing aid use is not automatically disqualifying, additional specialized tests will be administered to determine if the use of hearing aids will be permitted.Vision
Vision must be at least 20/30 in each eye with the following exceptions. If glasses are worn, vision must be at least 20/30 in each eye while wearing the glasses and uncorrected distance vision must not exceed 20/70 in either eye and the better eye must be at least 20/40. If soft contact lenses are worn, they must have been worn for at least three months and vision must be at least 20/30 in each eye tested with the contacts in. If a LASIK procedure (refractive surgery) was performed, vision must be at least 20/30 in each eye. In addition, candidates must be able to accurately and quickly name colors, and must be free from other visual impairments that would restrict the ability to perform security duties.Vaccine Verification
In accordance with Los Angeles City Ordinance 187134, candidates must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or receive an exemption and report their vaccination status prior to appointment by the City of Los Angeles.
