ATMP FAQs


The Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) Airfield and Terminal Modernization Project will focus on airfield, terminal, and landside improvements, while staying within the airport's existing footprint. The Project would elevate the passenger experience, enhance safety and increase business opportunities.

Airfield Improvements:

  • Reconfigure taxiways and runways to meet FAA Design Standards
    • Improves runway exit configurations to enhance pilot visibility
    • Extends Taxiway D westerly for operational efficiency and to meet FAA Standards
    • Improves Taxiway C & D for access to new terminal facilities

Terminal Improvements:

  • Creates a Terminal 9 (12-gate facility) and a Concourse 0 (11-gate facility/ 9 new gates only)
  • Provides full-service international capabilities
  • Replaces west remote gates

Landside Improvements:

  • Provides dedicated access to the Central Terminal Area, including the new Terminal 9, with new elevated roadways
  • Reduces congestion on nearby public roads and neighborhood streets
  • Enhances access to Intermodal Transportation Facility West (ITF West)
  • Adds a new Automated People Mover Train station at Terminal 9 which will link to regional mass transit
