Lynda Levitan, former Area Director for L.A. Council District 6, passed away on Friday, January 19th. Lynda was an avid supporter of Van Nuys Airport and aviation, and dedicated her life to public service.
She was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley, attended school here, worked for LAUSD for 12 years and taught a Getty-based art program for K-5th grade. She is a past President of the 31st District PTSA and served on the California State Parent Teachers Association, Board of Managers and was a member of the LAUSD Citizen’s Bond Oversight Committee. Lynda also served as a board member of the Japanese Garden Advisory Committee and the YMCA. She worked in the Office of Council District 6 for over a decade as a servant of her community, which she cared for deeply. Among her many public devotions, Lynda worked diligently to help nonprofits, always remained aware of district projects and issues, and developed events that served to benefit the entire community. Her support of airport educational outreach with events like Aviation Career Day and the ACE Academy was steadfast and always given with a smile.
Lynda loved her community, and gave that love without hesitation. She was committed to improving the lives of youth and children, she was an activist and advocate for community services, and a dedicated friend, wife and mother. She is survived by her husband of 35 years and their two children.
While her passing is mourned, we also celebrate her life, her accomplishments, and her lasting impact to the community. She will be remembered with affection, warmth and admiration.
