Captain Karla Rodriguez joined the Los Angeles Airport Police (LAXPD) in 2004. Throughout her 19-year career, she has performed the following assignments: Field Training Officer, Sergeant, Internal Affairs Investigator, Adjutant to the Chief of Police, Public Information Officer, Lieutenant, and now Captain.

Captain Rodriguez has worked in the capacity of a Public Information Officer for LAXPD since 2008 conducting multiple press conferences during critical incidents and events impacting LAX both for the English and Spanish media outlets.

In 2010, 2012, and 2020, Captain Rodriguez performed her duties in VAAU as an officer, sergeant and recently as the lieutenant Officer-in-Charge (OIC) where she oversaw approximately 25 employees, both sworn and civilian. Vulnerability Assessment and Analysis Unit (VAAU) is a critical unit within the Homeland Security and Intelligence Section that focuses on the enforcement of the Code of Federal Regulations for aviation security and other transportation modes.

On March 12, 2023, Karla Rodriguez was promoted to Captain and is now assigned to the Traffic Services Section in Operations. Due to her specialized knowledge and experience, Captain Rodriguez Airport Council International (ACI)
has invited Captain Rodriguez to conduct an assessment based on International Civil Aviation
Organization (ICAO) regulations called Airport Excellence Program (APEX) at Bajío International Airport, Jesus Teran Peredo International Airport, Licenciado Gustavo Diaz Ordaz International Airport in Mexico, Curaçao International Airport in the Netherland Island of Curaçao, and El Dorado International Airport, Bogotá Colombia.

Captain Rodriguez has an associate degree in psychology from Los Angeles City College, a bachelor’s degree in psychology from California State University, Los Angeles, and is currently attending California State University, Northridge pursuing her master’s degree in public administration with emphasis on Leadership and Management. She is also a graduate of the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute, Post Management Leadership Institute, and Drucker Executive Leadership Institute.

Captain Rodriguez is currently a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, California Police Chiefs Association, and Latin American Law Enforcement.

Captain Rodriguez also serves as a Life Group Leader for her local church. She is a daughter, wife,
mother of two adult children, and a mentor and developer of people.
