Project Overview:
Taxiway B between Taxiways C7 and C8 will be closed for 36 continuous hours starting Saturday, March 18, 2023 (0100L) continuing through Sunday, March 19, 2023 (1300L) to repair a section of the taxiway pavement. See illustration of the closure below.
Operational Impacts:
- Expect aircraft traffic to be routed onto Taxiway C to get traffic around the Taxiway B closure.
- Expect additional traffic on Taxiway C during the 36 hour Taxiway B closure.
- The additional aircraft traffic on Taxiway C may cause some delays to aircraft push back requests from gates at Terminals 5, 6 and 7 that require push back onto Taxiway C.
- There are no gate closures associated with the Taxiway B closure.
Special Coordination:
- To minimize disruption for aircraft departing from Terminal 5, Gate 58, Terminal 6, Gates 68B, 69A, 69B, the FAA ATCT will coordinate directly with Alaska Airlines and United Airlines Ramp Towers to instruct flight crews and/or aircraft reposition crews to push tail north into Taxilane C7 and Taxilane C8 during the Taxiway B closure hours.
- Flight crews and aircraft reposition crews can expect to be given instructions to push back into Taxilane C7 or Taxilane C8 onto the southernmost ramp control spots (the yellow triangle with the #1 painted) prior to disconnecting and starting engines or towing to the destination parking location.
- Please ensure flight crews, aircraft reposition crews and Ground Service Providers are briefed on this temporary procedure.
- Crews must contact FAA ATCT South Ground Control as normal for pushback instructions from these gates; it is not necessary to contact the respective Ramp Control Towers unless instructed to by the FAA ATCT.
Vehicle Service Road Driver Safety Items:
- Drivers transitioning the area on vehicle service roads and along the terminal apron areas should expect an increase in aircraft traffic along Taxiway C.
- In addition, expect more aircraft traffic than usual transitioning across the VSR zipper markings at Taxiways C7 and C8 as they are routed around the Taxiway B closure.
- Drivers must be vigilant and exercise caution in the vicinity.
- Drivers should also be aware of the potential for increased transit times while waiting for aircraft to pass.
