Airfield Improvements
What are we proposing?
- Reconfigure taxiways and runway exits to meet current FAA design standards
- Improve runway exit configurations to enhance pilot visibility
- Extend Taxiway D westerly to better manage airfield operations and to meet FAA standards
- Improve Taxiways C & D for access to new Concourse 0 and Terminal 9 facilities
Why are we proposing it?
- Reduces wait times on the airfield, which would lead to less aircraft idling and a decrease in air pollutant emissions
- Increases operational efficiency, which reduces delays and enhances safety
Terminal Improvements
What are we proposing?
- Concourse 0 Features:
- Develop a new Concourse 0 as an easterly extension of Terminal 1
- Provide full-service international processing capabilities
- Provide up to 1.275 million square feet of facilities
- Maintain curbside and passenger processing at Terminal 1
- Terminal 9 Features:
- Develop a new Terminal 9 southeast of Sepulveda Blvd./Century Boulevard Intersection
- Provide full-service international processing capabilities
- Provide up to 1.4 million square feet of facilities
- Include landside access to/from the roadway system
Why are we proposing it?
- Replaces 15 of the West Remote Gates that would be removed by the extension of Taxiway D or decommissioned as part of the proposed Project
- Provides a better passenger experience, including additional concessions (restaurants & shops), and extra seating, check-in areas, and security screening
- Creates jobs and business opportunities for local and small businesses during construction and operations
Landside Improvements
What are we proposing?
- Provide dedicated roadway access to the Central Terminal Area (CTA), including the new Terminal 9, with new elevated roadways
- Add a new Automated People Mover train station at Terminal 9 which will link to regional mass transit
- Include a pedestrian corridor over Sepulveda Boulevard between Terminals 8 and 9
Why are we proposing it?
- Reduce congestion on public thoroughfares and neighborhood streets
- Provide more user-friendly airport access
- Enhance access to the Intermodal Transportation Facility West
