Terminal 1, Departures 

Parade on Wheels is an installation of 12 hand-carved papier-mâché figurines created by artist Hadiya Finley. Finley has studied the female form and developed an innate sense of the shapes in order to create sculptures that represent a simplified, but identifiable figure. The figures of Parade on Wheels express the capability of bodies to engage in motion and activity.

Finley reimagines the shape and purpose of dolls by creating soft forms made of wood, clay, paper, and glue. The figures are paired with objects meant to inspire contemplation within the viewer. The inclusion of objects such as birds, wheels, and gears are meant to invoke the feeling of motion; bringing a sense of strength and endurance to the delicate creatures each object interacts with.

The primitive sculptural feel of the dolls is juxtaposed by the addition of motorized wheels and metal contraptions.

Hadiya Finley received a BA in Theater Arts from the State University of New York, Binghamton, and an MFA in sculpture from Claremont Graduate University. She has shown in solo and group shows in galleries in Los Angeles and Guangzhou, China.
